"Your Compass Rose Speaks" by Mary Lunnen is an accessible guide to personal growth, using the metaphor of expanding your life by exploring the four cardinal directions. The book takes you to your center, where you find your inner peace, setting the stage for a journey of self-discovery. From there, it moves to the North, where the North Star helps you uncover your life's purpose. The journey continues East to explore your passions and what energizes you, then South to connect with your inner power and let go of the past. Finally you go West to assess where you are now and plan your next steps. The return to the center symbolizes coming home to yourself, a powerful phrase that deeply resonates with both me and the author. It reminded me of the saying where you come to the starting point having learned much wisdom.

Each chapter of the book offers a clear and concise explanation of its focus, accompanied by a guided visualization that helps deepen the understanding of the theme. Mary also includes suggested exercises that are practical and supportive, enhancing the opening of yourself. Additionally, she uses her proprietary rediscovery cards which you purchase separately, at the end of each chapter, which further engage you in reflecting on the chapter's theme and applying the insights to your own life.

For me, one of the chapters I really enjoyed was Chapter 8 in the East, where Mary addresses how to pursue your passions. She talked about a potential fear of losing joy in doing what you love if it become your career. It helped me understand someone I knew that had that concern. She encouraged readers to keep notes to track the insights and messages that emerge as you considered the exercises cards and guided visualizations, ensuring that the wisdom gained becomes a part of your ongoing personal journey.

At the end of the book Mary offers inspirational stories of women who have experienced her fantastic Magic Carpet Rides.

Overall, "Your Compass Rose Speaks" is a fantastic book for anyone wanting to grow personally and spiritually. It’s easy to follow, full of helpful tips, and really encourages you to think and reflect. It’s a book that offers both guidance and freedom to explore yourself.

A Magical Book

The Compass Rose speaks is a beautifully written book which takes you on many magical guided journeys around the compass rose. Whether you are someone who often travels inwards to access your creativity or gain clarity on life decisions or you are new to the practice of visualisation and guided meditations this book will be a joyful companion to your practice. Used on its own or with the companion cards this book can help to bring more magic and joy into your life.

Reading the book was like coming home to a warm, gentle hug

I am reviewing Mary Lunnen’s book ‘Your Compass Rose Speaks’ and ‘The Dare to Blossom Rediscovery Cards’ set 2.

I took a whole day to enjoy the book. It is some time since I took part in one of Mary’s Magic Carpet journeys on Zoom.

Reading the book was like coming home to a warm, gentle hug. There were so many insights to be gained from reading the book and drawing the rediscovery cards around the Compass Rose.

I love the meditations and when I read them I hear Mary’s comforting voice. Mary is a Mother Earth figure who nurtures and gently encourages people to grow.

There is something lovely about taking time for myself and there is so much to ponder. I must do this again soon, but take more time, maybe over a few days, as an act of self reflection and self love.

The coming back to centre cards, I particularly like the last card silence, encouraging me to spend more time in silent reflection with myself.

Mary has developed The Compass Rose over a lifetime of experience, I enjoy her wisdom, her writing, and her art.

Unbelievably helpful

When I saw this book as a group read along on Instagram, I jumped at the chance. I’m so very happy I did. Your Compass Rose Speaks takes you on a journey through visualization and prompts of each part of the Compass Rose beginning in Peace (the Center) then each of the four directions, returning to Peace.

It’s such a gentle guide to help with healing and finding your inner wisdom. I am blown away how this book has helped me on my healing journey. I will be keeping Your Compass Rose Speaks close by to return to it again and again.

If you enjoy guided meditations, you will love this book!

Mary has been a life coach for twenty years, throughout which time her imaginative, creative approach to self discovery has been tested, refined, and practiced by Mary herself and many of her clients. This book is an amazing distillation of a very clear and truly original process for connecting with our inner wisdom and guidance, to rediscover the self we always intended to be but may have hidden away as children to protect ourselves from hurt and worse.

Using the symbol of the compass rose, with its peaceful center and four directional points corresponding to purpose, passion, power, and progress, Mary helps readers find themselves by offering questions and prompts to consider and explore in reviewing each of these interwoven facets of personality. The process of contemplating and answering her questions brings us closer to recognizing - sometimes with surprise - the true nature of our thoughts, feelings, and values as opposed to what we think they are or what they should be. Mary provides further opportunities to better understand ourselves through guided meditations she styles 'magic carpet rides.' These loosely structured flights of fancy stimulate and unleash the imagination as a means of recognizing our potential to 'blossom,' to become our truest selves. The latter part of the book offers compelling and entertaining reports from Mary and some of her clients of their own, deeply personal magic carpet ride experiences.

I find Mary's approach to be an insightful, helpful framework for navigating my relationship with my inner life. It's so easy to lose touch with that quiet, inner voice amidst the 'noise' and hyper stimulation of our modern world. Reading this book brought me relief, hope, and greater confidence that I have the answers I need within me.

Mary is an inspiring coach. She writes with the authority and confidence of a master practitioner, which I greatly respect and admire. Her gentle guidance is clearly and intentionally centered on offering options, not prescribed solutions we should follow based on her values and interpretations. She begins from the perspective that each of us knows what is best for ourselves, and she proceeds to help us access that knowledge in a very practical way.

I highly recommend this book.

 A Gentle Way to Discover Who You Really Are

Mary Lunnen has not only written a book that can speak to all who are eager to discover who they are and what they want from their lives, she has created a template that everyone can use for themselves, at their own pace in a time of their choosing.  In a world filled with technology and a need to always be ‘doing’ something to fit in all you are expected to achieve, this book is an antidote to rushing around and ticking off items on a to-do list. 

The book explains how to use it, introduces us to Mary’s Rediscovery Cards, her Magic Carpet rides and visualisations, and then sets out the points of the Compass Rose ready to explore.  Mary will not lead you on your journey, that is your own journey to rediscover your true core, your true self, but she will be along side you and will share in your excitement and discovery of the still, small voice inside you that is you.  You will begin to discover where that magical, compassionate part of you has been and what layers have hidden you over the years.

It is writing, yes, but in all of the words you hear Mary’s gentle voice offering thoughts and ideas of how to explore the landscapes you visit.  You will go on a journey round the Compass Rose and each time will be different. You will start from the centre, from Peace and visit all four compass points, North, East, South and West before returning to your centre, to Peace. 

It may sound fantastical, dream-like, and unbelievable when I say that you will be changed by this book, perhaps, a different way of looking at this would be to say that ‘you’ will be gently revealed, amazed at the person you find there.  I wonder if this book needs a warning included? Beware, you will not be the same person you started out as when you arrive at the end of the book.

With Mary, nothing is forced, if there is no right or wrong answer.  If things seem difficult to do or see then it might not be the ‘right’ time for you but, take a risk, revisit the exercises, sit with them a while and let them whisk you away on the Magic Carpet, and things will shift. I journeyed through the book over some months and, towards the end, along with a themed six-weekly Zoom circle, the messages were coming loud and clear. I could only acknowledge this shift and greet the woman I had met in my travels.

Sometimes you will receive words or images or stories that resonate, at other times they won’t be a ‘fit’ but, they will be telling you something.  Repeated words, colours or images may hammer home a message, it can pay to take notice but scary to allow that awareness in. 

I can recommend this book for self-exploration, but also a way to celebrate who you are and who you might become as things shift.  Sometimes letting go what is known, is the hardest thing to do, to step into a new way of being in life.  I can also recommend coming along to one of Mary’s Zoom Circles, perhaps on a theme that ‘speaks’ to you. There is a different feel to journeying in the company of others, sharing your rides and hearing about others.

Enjoy the adventures and the journey’s in this book but, beware, it could change your life.
