Reflections: Treats

Since my week’s holiday in the middle of June I have been working on keeping that feeling of
relaxation and peace, even back in the middle of a busy working life.

As mentioned below, I have treated myself to a novel to read after I submit my final PGCE a
ssignments – something to look forward to! There are many other things I can easily do that really
take very little time (and often cost nothing at all). These things can often make a big difference to
how I feel.

Examples for me include the luxury of a leisurely soak in a hot bath, a walk in the park at lunchtime
Instead of staying at my desk at work, coffee with a friend. All these help me remember that the first
thing anyone has to do before they can care for others is to care for themselves.

This is not ‘selfish’, it is obvious good sense when I think about it. If I am tired and irritable I cannot
give my time freely and generously to others as I would like to (and it can be a vicious circle – when
that happens I feel guilty and even more tired and irritable!). Care for yourself can sometimes mean
saying no to requests from others.

For you: I am sure that you have your own ways of giving yourself treats and little luxuries – why not
plan some for this week?

Next month I will have the luxury of more time to write and to find inspiring links to share with you, as
well as celebrating the end of two years part-time study!

Featured book: The Three Camels. D C Bourne

This month I am featuring a novel for a change, I treated myself to this for my holiday and spent a
whole day sitting in the garden reading it – wonderful! This is a fantasy with lots of local interest and
colour set in North Cornwall very close to where I live so that was an added enjoyment for me.
I met the author when I popped into a local bookshop a few weeks ago where he was promoting his
second book. This is the first and I found it an absorbing story, so much so that I have recently
bought the sequel to read when I finish my study assignments – another treat!
I am sure you will find the books in an online book store if you are interested.

June Draw Winner
The winners name has been drawn out of the metaphorical hat, and that person notified that they
have won six free 30 minute telephone life coaching sessions – so if it is you I will look forward to
talking soon if you decide to take them up. If you have not been lucky this time, the next draw is at
the end of December, and there is always the offer of a free consultation to discuss how life coaching
can benefit you.

Thank you for reading, do email me with any questions, comments or suggestions, or feedback on
particular items. Please feel free to forward this newsletter to anyone you think may be interested.
All best wishes
 Mary
