Reflections: Inspiration

This month I have found myself searching for inspiration to write this piece for you.

Then I realised: ‘inspiration’ is the perfect topic!

I decided to sit with my cup of tea in the garden for a few minutes, between the April showers that
have been falling here in Cornwall today. The birds were singing all around me and I watched two
bumble bees collecting pollen from flowers nearby. I relaxed and took some deep breaths and
remembered one of the definitions of ‘inspiration’, which is ‘the process of inhalation’.

Remembering to breathe deeply is for me the root of my inspiration, as I breathe I reconnect with
myself and with the natural world around me. Breathing purposefully slows me down, and relieves
stress, bringing in a feeling of calm and peace. It is something I can do any time and anywhere – in
the middle of the most bustling place surrounded by people, I can still pause and breathe deeply and
reconnect.

Once I have done this I can be open to inspiration in the other meanings:
·         The process or quality of being inspired
·         A person or thing that inspires
·         A sudden clever or timely idea.

For you:

Where in your life are you searching for inspiration?

If you feel stuck or uninspired try sitting quietly, outside in a peaceful place if possible, but anywhere
will do.

·         Breathe deeply, filling your lungs and releasing the breath slowly and steadily.
·         Still your thoughts and let them pass by, notice them but don’t follow them, you can come
back to them later.
·         Ask for help with whatever you are stuck with and let that go too.
·         Breathe some more and sit as long as you are able or want to, if you wish jot down any
thoughts, feelings and realisations.
·         Continue your day refreshed and revitalised – literally inspired by the action of
inspiration = inhalation.

Feedback on “Embracing Abundance with Passion” workshop 25 April

A group of eight of us gathered for the half day workshop on Saturday 25 April at Millennium House,
Pensilva, near Liskeard. It is a lovely venue with wonderful staff who looked after us extremely well.
In a brief morning together we shared readings, insights and had fun with a creative activity.

Some of the feedback from those who were there:

“A morning of remembering that I already have everything I need to live a happy and fulfilled life.
Thank you Mary.” Alissandra Burtonwood, therapist.

“It was comfortably informal and utterly enjoyable. Everyone seemed at ease straight away.
The sharing of thoughts and ideas was refreshing and rewarding, thought provoking and a
great learning experience without any pressure.” Caroline Taylor, life coach and holistic healer.

“It was instructive to meet new people and empowering to discover unexpected connections with
some of them.” Dr Claire Tregaskis, writer.

Thank you to Alissandra, Caroline and Claire for their permission to quote their comments.

Plans for future events

“Embracing Abundance with Passion” Workshop, E Devon: Saturday 26 September.

I have found a great venue at Dunkeswell near Honiton for this event – more details to follow soon.

I also hope to arrange another half day event in Cornwall before the school holidays start in late
July, venue yet to be confirmed – if you are interested in an event in your area please contact me
as soon as possible.

New workshops: Mothers and Daughters

Someone reminded me recently that about a year ago I mentioned that I had been asked to develop
a workshop on the theme of ‘mothers and daughters’. The time seems right now to work on this,
and I would be most grateful for any thoughts, suggestions or ideas, please email me.

I would run a trial event in Cornwall initially, probably a half day. You could come with your mother, or with your daughter/s, or bring your thoughts and memories or ideas about being a mother or a daughter (or perhaps, not being a mother). I will look forward to your comments with great interest.
