Reflections: Being well

Recently I kept coming across the phrase “well-being”. As I reflected on what that means for me it occurred to me to reverse the words and think about “being well”. This could refer to being physically and mentally well in health terms. For me it also prompted reflections on being well. Rather than just existing, thinking about the past or worrying about the future, I could look at how I was being in this moment.

Am I being well? What is my effect on the world around me through how I am being? Am I “being” in a way that is healthy for me?

I am reminded of the different effects that we can all have on other people by our moods and behaviour. I am sure you can think of times when someone comes into a room and the atmosphere instantly changes: it may become happy, light, full of fun. Or it might become heavy, tense, charged with negative feelings. Whether we are aware of it or not, our own moods have these effects on others around us too.

How will you choose to be today? Will you choose to reflect and amplify the gloomy economic news? Or will you choose to deflect that and focus on the good things around us?
What can you do now to bring some happiness and warmth to yourself and other people?
Smile?
Phone or email someone to say ‘Hello, I’m thinking of you.’?
Choose to appreciate what is all around for free?

This reminds me of the Gandhi quote, so I will leave you with this thought: “We must be the change we wish to see in the world.” Can you add to positive change rather than contributing to the cloud of negativity?

Here is a fun poem to get you started!

Smiling is infectious
You catch it like the flu
When someone smiled at me today
I started smiling too
I walked around the corner
And someone saw me grin
When he smiled I realised
I had passed it on to him
I thought about the smile
And then realised its worth
A single smile like mine
Could travel round the earth
So if you feel a smile begin
Don't leave it undetected
Start an epidemic
And get the world infected.

A gentle reminder of some ideal Christmas presents:

Dare to Blossom 2009 Calendar and “Dare to Blossom: Coaching and Creativity” book

My calendar is available via Lulu.com. The picture for each month is of flowers taken in my garden in Cornwall. The colourful images will bring a little piece of nature to inspire you each month. The price is £7.99 plus postage and you can choose whether to pay more for faster delivery.

Copies of “Dare to Blossom: Coaching and Creativity” are available either as signed copies direct from me (click here for details of how to order), or from Lulu on this link, for print or download versions.

The Dare to Blossom Inspiration Package

For someone very special there is the Inspiration Package,
a copy of the book (so you have something physical to gift wrap and send, or I can do this for you and send direct),
plus a gift voucher for two 30 minute telephone life coaching sessions.

All for the combined price of £49, including post and packing. (The price if you bought these items separately would be £101.95, so less than half price)

Update on the next Dare to Blossom Workshop in Cornwall:
“Creating Abundance with Passion”
In response to the doom and gloom all around us the next Dare to Blossom workshop has evolved some more! It is still on Saturday 29 November, at Chacewater Village Hall, near Truro, Cornwall, and is now a half day “taster” session for a new programme* I am developing that at the moment and has the title “Creating Abundance with Passion”.

We will be sharing exercises to encourage the feelings of abundance and enable us to rejoice in the power of change.

Details: arrive at 9.30 a.m. for refreshments, start at 10.00, finish at 12.30. (anyone who wishes could share lunch together afterwards at one of the historic pubs in the village).

Cost: only £10 per person, booking essential. Latest update: 6 people have already booked so if you want to come book now before all the places go (maximum 20).

Follow these links for further details and the booking form. You can now pay by PayPal by following the link at the bottom of the booking form, and by credit card using their secure service even if you do not have a PayPal account. Of course, if you prefer you can still send a cheque.

If you are in Cornwall, look out for the ‘Eve’ women’s page in the local press on 12th and 13th November (Cornishman, West Briton and Cornish Guardian) as there will be a piece about the workshop and a competition with a chance to win a copy of Dare to Blossom: Coaching and Creativity.

*The new programme will be launched before the New Year and ideas are developing as I write. It is likely to include some combination of a series of workshops, (each building on the previous one), regular teleclasses, a members’ only online forum for discussion and support, and workbooks and other materials to help you keep connected with your own abundance and creating more of the things you want in your life.

Thank you for reading, do email me with any questions, comments or suggestions, or feedback on particular items. Please feel free to forward this newsletter to anyone you think may be interested.
All best wishes,

Mary
